Businesses must prepare for a new era of cyber threats, says Jermaine Gibson, CEO and co-founder of Edge IT. 

His comments follow a recent update on cyber security and resilience from Peter Kyle MP, Secretary of State for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The update builds on last year’s King’s Speech, where the Government committed to strengthening the UK’s cyber defences. 

“In an increasingly dangerous and unstable world, we will not hesitate to protect our people from those who seek to do us harm,” said Mr Kyle. “For too long, successive governments have failed to properly address the growing risk posed by cyber criminals and hostile states.” 

For Jermaine Gibson, who launched Edge IT in 2012, the Government’s move is not just welcome – it’s long overdue. 

“This bill is a wake-up call,” he says. “Cyber crime isn’t just targeting large corporations anymore. SMEs, schools, charities, healthcare providers – they’re all in the crosshairs. If you hold data or deliver services, you’re a potential target.”
