Network Refresh Case Study
Hydrocert Limited, Welwyn Garden City, UK
Edge IT’s partnership with Hydrocert exemplifies the value of consistent, proactive IT support in helping businesses grow sustainably over time. What began as a small setup in a shared office space has become a comprehensive, evolving IT relationship spanning more than a decade. Today, Edge IT continues to support Hydrocert’s operations, providing stability, scalability and smart solutions that save time and support business goals.

Company’s growth kept on track with IT upgrade
A long-term Edge IT client knew it would be in safe hands when it required a renewal of all networking hardware to ensure its IT operations stayed consistent with the company’s growth. Any concerns it had about keeping the business operational while the systems were upgraded were allayed by a carefully planned project that ensured disruption was kept to a minimum as the company prepared for the next stage of its journey.
The Client
Hydrocert is a UK-based provider of water hygiene testing and certification services. The company plays a vital role in helping organisations remain compliant with water safety regulations in healthcare, housing, education and commercial sectors.
Edge IT first partnered with Hydrocert in 2012 when the business moved into a neighbouring unit at the Devonshire Business Centre. At the time, Hydrocert employed just five people and was looking for reliable IT setup and file-sharing solutions to support day-to-day collaboration.
Significantly, Hydrocert was Edge IT’s very first managed services customer – a relationship that has grown stronger and more strategic with each passing year.
The Solution
Edge IT worked closely with Hydrocert’s founders and leadership team from the outset, aligning IT services with the business’s goals and operational needs. The focus was placed on three key areas: ensuring data was secure, accessible and recoverable.
As Hydrocert expanded, Edge IT adapted its services in response – regularly reassessing infrastructure, recommending improvements and implementing technologies that would enable growth. Even as leadership relocated geographically, Edge IT maintained close working relationships with the Welwyn-based team, particularly Administration Manager Tracey Scully, to ensure continuity and responsiveness.
Key Projects Delivered
Edge IT has supported Hydrocert’s evolution through a series of impactful projects, including:
- Cloud modernisation: Migrated the organisation from on-premise servers to Microsoft 365, boosting accessibility and resilience.
- Remote working enablement: Enabled secure remote access and collaboration during the UK’s COVID-19 lockdown, ensuring business continuity.
- Office relocation: Supported the technical requirements of moving from a shared office to a dedicated building as the company scaled.
- Custom Line-of-Business application: Designed, built and continue to maintain a bespoke certificate generation system that automates post-testing documentation – saving the company hundreds of hours each month in manual administrative work.
- Cyber Essentials accreditation: Assisted Hydrocert in achieving and renewing Cyber Essentials certification to enhance cybersecurity posture.
- User growth enablement: Seamlessly scaled IT infrastructure to support growth from five to 40 users over a 12-year period.
The Result
Hydrocert’s growth journey is a testament to the power of long-term collaboration. Through stable infrastructure, strategic guidance and innovative custom development, Edge IT has played a key role in supporting Hydrocert’s operational efficiency and business success.
The bespoke Line-of-Business application alone has delivered exceptional return on investment, streamlining a once-manual process and enabling staff to focus on higher-value tasks.
